This month will see the School host a unique exchange event which will pair the school’s academic researchers and lecturers with leading TV practitioners.
The event is a collaboration between Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies (JOMEC) and the Royal Television Society (RTS).
It will bring together both academic and practice expertise with the aim of giving those involved in TV production an insight into academic scrutiny of their work whilst providing academics with an opportunity to better understand the experiences of those working in the industry.
Titled the ‘Expertise Exchange’ and managed by TV producer and JOMEC professional tutor Angela Graham, the event will address contemporary issues such as whether consumerism is the hidden driver behind all TV production, what TV news provision does the younger teen audience want and if the news can ever be impartial?
Angela said: “This exchange will pair academics and professionals for one-to-one dialogue ahead of the night so that the audience gets the benefit of their encounter and a chance for further discussion.
“We’ll be asking if we can better appreciate the realities of the industry by looking at it together? And, crucially, what can we do as a result for television in Wales?”

Each pair will give a short presentation to the assembled audience. The event will take place on Thursday 24th October 2013 in Bute Building at 7:00 PM and is free to attend. Refreshments will be available from 6:30 PM and also after the event. Registration for the event is via Eventbrite.
