You may have wondered why on some days you can sweat over your keyboard for hours only to produce an awkward paragraph or two. Yet paradoxically, some of the best pieces are those that come with almost no effort. The words seem to appear like magic, almost as if they have little to do with your own thought processes, and yet this can often be your best work. So how can you call on this special energy and exploit it more readily?

When is it?

The course is made up of two morning workshops:

Friday 24th September, 9.30am – 1pm

Monday 27th September, 9.30am – 1pm

What’s it about?

The workshop is designed to unblock the barriers that may be holding you back. Writing games, discussions and serious review of the writing process will show you a new way of tackling future writing tasks. We’ll take a look at Left Brain/Right Brain theory in relation to editing and creativity, and you may discover a new, more empowered way of communicating.

Who is it for?

If you’ve ever grappled with writer’s block, or worked into the early hours to meet a deadline, this workshop could be for you. Whether you want to write features, travel articles, opinion columns, blogs, web content, PR and marketing material, business communications – or even a best seller – this inspirational writing workshop will help you speed up your writing, eliminate the struggle and tap into your inner creativity.

What will I learn?

In just one day you will learn how to:

• make writing an enjoyable fun experience

• write with increased fluency and ease

• gain confidence and avoid writer’s block

• outwit your inner critic

• write as naturally as you speak

• access and trust your creative right brain

• write powerfully and persuasively

• communicate from the heart and the head

• inspire and motivate your readers

What do I need to bring?

A pen and large format notebook (ruled A4 is ideal) for writing. I’m asking everyone to write with pen and paper for the games and exercises, though it’s fine to use a laptop for your final project if you prefer.

About the trainer

Judi Goodwin

I’m a Manchester-based trainer and writing coach and spent 30 years as a freelance journalist, contributing to the Daily Telegraph, Radio Times, Liverpool Post and BBC Woman’s Hour. For five years I was commissioning editor for Ideal Home magazine. I have run this, my favourite workshop, for the CIPR, the Bank of England, The Big Issue and Lloyds Bank as well as for life term prisoners, people with mental health challenges, and people with AIDS and HIV.

I like to bring a whole person approach to training and believe people learn best when they’re having fun. My most challenging assignment was teaching interview skills to Romanian journalists in Bucharest. They spoke no English; I speak no Romanian.
