Social Media Roadshow Wales 2020

Almost without fanfare, a new kind of storytelling has crept into social media and taken over, offering a new way to build audiences and drive engagement. Yes, we’re talking the rise of the social media Story. Once the domain of Instagram alone, Stories and vertical video are now creeping into other social platforms and are becoming almost ubiquitous. But they’re not always done well.

How do you create a hit Story? What are the tricks, tips and apps that can make your vertical video engaging? How can you use Stories across social media platforms to build audiences and stay relevant to your followers?

Social media expert Emma Meese returns to Social Media Roadshow Wales to lead four sessions with the focus on creating Stories and vertical video.

You’ll learn:
How to choose the right social media platform for your Story
What makes a good Story/ vertical video
Techniques to find your target audience and engage them
How to make your Story interactive
Basic storytelling techniques for vertical video
How Stories can build your following
What free tools and apps are available to help you create Stories/ vertical videos, and how to use them

Whether you’re a journalist (employed, self-employed, hyper-local, or looking for work), communications worker, photographer, documentary maker, blogger or simply interested in improving your social media skills, this session is for you.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own smart phones, tablets or laptops so they can try out some of the platforms and tools.

Social Media Roadshow Wales is a partnership between NUJ Training Wales and Cardiff University’s Centre for Community Journalism. In her role as manager of this centre Emma Meese is dedicated to setting up hyperlocal news sites across Wales and delivering Social and Digital Media training across the UK.
