What’s it about?
On social media, video is king. But creating video is hard, right?
Wrong. The most effective video for social media is simple, authentic and created on mobile. With a little know-how, and the confidence to have a go, you can do it. That’s what this hands-on training, using your own mobile and a free editing app, is all about.
You’ll learn the key skills needed to shoot, edit and share attention-grabbing video. The focus is on Reels, Stories and TikTok-style vertical video, adding text, subtitles, music and effects.
This is a HYBRID WORKSHOP, which means you can join other participants on the day, or complete the training on Zoom. During the training, in-room and remote participants will be able to see, hear and interact with each other.

A PDF Mobile Video Toolkit, with tips and links will be shared on the day.
Who’s it for?
Journalists and content creators. No previous video experience required.
What will I learn?
- Learn three key styles for mobile video: Title, Selfie and Voiceover style.
- Record and edit selfie-style interviews, understanding shot framing, background, audio and lighting, ready for upload to social media.
- Adapt the approach to capture face-to-face interviews.
- Learn how to convert and export video in horizontal, square and vertical formats.
- Add titles, subtitles, music and transitions to your video.
- Create videos using voiceovers, video clips and images.
What equipment will I need?
A fully-charged iPhone or Android smartphone.
Earbuds or headphones, plus charger.
The CapCut video editing app, installed BEFORE the workshop. Links on the CapCut website: capcut.com/tools/video-editing-app.
FOR THOSE ATTENDING IN PERSON: Tripods, mobile mounts and microphones will be available, but participants are welcome to bring their own accessories.
FOR THOSE ATTENDING ON ZOOM: A simple mobile tripod is highly recommended. Here is a recommended Selfie Stick Tripod on Amazon costing under £10.
Participants are advised to update system software and apps before the workshop. You will need space on your device to record video.
