What’s it about?

Everyone seems to be talking about email newsletters. But why all the fuss over something that has been around for years? And how do you launch a newsletter? It’s time to find out …

Hosted on Zoom, this practical workshop focuses on editorial-style newsletters, with original or curated content that appeals to a target niche audience.

From choosing a name and style, to publishing your newsletter using platforms such as Substack or Revue, this half-day course will give you the tools, tips and techniques to launch a newsletter with confidence. It will also cover approaches for organising and creating content, staying on the right side of GDPR and promoting your newsletter to grow a following of loyal subscribers.

FREE feedback session included. This half-day workshop gives you the tools to kickstart your newsletter. But we know you’ll have questions as you get started. Drop into an informal ‘newsletter cafe’ feedback session with trainer Dan Mason a week after the workshop for feedback on your newsletter content, copy and ideas.

Who’s it for?

Creative freelances and those working in the media, community, government or charity sectors. The training will suit those involved in creating content for an internal or public audience. No specific journalism experience is required.

Date and Time

Workshop: Wednesday 10 November, 2021. 10am to 1pm.

Optional Newsletter Cafe feedback session for workshop participants only: DATE TBC. Drop in at any time between 12pm-2pm.

What will I learn?

During a morning of hands-on training you will learn how to:

  • Establish your newsletter audience and content style
  • Sign up with and navigate a free newsletter platform such as Revue
  • Approach content creation for newsletters
  • Source and edit images that help make your newsletter shine
  • Explore approaches to writing subject lines and pre-headers
  • Understand double opt-ins and simple GDPR compliance
  • Understand how newsletters link to website landing pages and subscription forms
  • Promote your newsletter via social media
  • Take the next step … to paid subscriptions

The training follows a simple set-by-step approach, covered in a PDF online toolkit that accompanies the training.

What equipment do I need?

Nothing special. You’ll need a laptop or desktop computer both to access Zoom and to sign up with a free email newsletter platform.
