Linking In: Making the Most of Networking

One day workshop

By the end of the workshop, trainees will be able to:

  • understand how face to face and digital networking interact
  • draw up a plan for engaging with others face to face and on LinkedIn
  • understand how to use time-saving tools to maintain digital engagement
  • know where to get advice and help on the above

Level of knowledge: No technical knowledge will be assumed. Participants will not be required to be online during the workshop.

You should attend if you:

  • are looking for long-term employment or freelance contracts
  • are employed and you’re looking to change jobs or career
  • are planning on taking voluntary redundancy
  • have been made redundant after a period in work and want a confidence boost
  • are freelance and want to find new streams of income
  • are interested in taking a very active rather than passive approach to job/contract hunting

The approach:

To make the subject accessible, enjoyable, and inspirational, with plenty of interaction and practical tips. It is not a technical workshop. The aim is to help people understand how networking works and hone their message.

The workshop falls into two parts:

I. Why does networking work and why is effective digital networking so important?

II. How do we fit networking into our daily work schedule?

Areas covered in the workshop are:

  • Networking refresher – what it is and why it works
  • Identifying what you’re selling and how it helps others
  • Your key message
  • Understanding your digital footprint
  • Social media for work – polishing your online profile
  • LinkedIn – including groups and recommendations
  • Tools for managing multiple social networks (without wasting time)
  • Your next steps
