Lynnette Peck: Magazine journalist turned development producer (freelance)

We know a lot of Indies struggle to find new development people who are able to write clear and engaging treatments, or do the kind of thorough journalistic or scientific research so many commissioners are looking for. It’s often difficult in our fairly closed industry to find new editorial staff who know a good story when they see one and aren’t afraid of picking up the phone to get access.

To address that, Channel 4 Nations & Regions has been working with NUJ Training Cymru Wales and the University of South Wales to organise an event that will introduce print journalists to the potential opportunities of working in TV as well as offering an insight for TV journalists who are looking to work in longer-form content.

The panel will include Dorothy Byrne, Head of News and Current Affairs at Channel 4, along with journalists who have forged successful careers in TV and are keen to demonstrate the value of good journalism skills within the industry; not just in News and Current Affairs but in other genres including documentary, features, factual and development.

The panel discussion and Q&A will be followed by a more informal meet and greet – where the invited journalists can meet representatives from the TV industry in Wales.

The 40 available tickets (free) for journalists will be offered on a first come, first served basis (click Book Now). Priority booking for NUJ members in Wales will end at 9am on Friday 19th January when places will open up to all journalists in Wales.
