How can you monetise the work you do online? Can alternative business models such as cooperatives offer freelancers a sustainable career in journalism? What new online publishing platforms and services have been developed recently? How can you take your online journalism and comms to the next level?

NUJ Training Wales, alongside the NUJ Freelance Industrial Council, the NUJ Cardiff & South East Wales and Swansea Branches, and NUJ Welsh Executive Committee, invite you to join the next instalment of our Freelance Salon series.

The day will focus on latest ways and means that independent journalists and media professions who produce digital content can flourish, including through effective use of social media and the development of cooperative business models.

Our speakers will share their success stories of how they are building their careers and earn a good living in the digital world. We are delighted to confirm that Welsh creative comms guru Helen Reynolds, founder of Social for the People will give a talk on the role of “Personal Branding” in monetising online work, whilst Derek Walker, CEO of Wales Co-Operative Centre will set out the promise of journalistic cooperatives for freelancers looking to have a sustainable career. Emma Meese, Director of the Centre for Community Journalim (C4CJ) at Cardiff University, will be opening the day by sharing the very latest from the world of freelance and hyperlocal journalism and we will also hear from the inspriational teenage entrepreur Felix Milbank, founder of The Young European News, how he has kick-started his freelance career in online journalism.

The event will also be a great chance to network with other wonderful Welsh freelancers over lunch in this prestigious city centre location.
